National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)
Philippians Chapter

We are blessed to have the Philippians Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society at HCA!

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship and helps middle-level students develop the knowledge and skills to become well-rounded student leaders in their school, community, and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a student qualify for NJHS?
Students will receive an application after sustaining a 3.5 GPA for a full semester (or more) at HCA Middle School. The application will review a student based on our core values of service, leadership, citizenship, and character. The advisory board, made up of teachers, will review the applications and teacher surveys. If the student receives a score of 4.0 or higher on a 5.0 scale, they will receive an invitation to be a member of the Philippians Chapter of NJHS.

How does a student maintain his/her NJHS membership?

Students must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA. They must continue to demonstrate Christ-like character, leadership skills, and a focus on citizenship. Students must accumulate 30 or more hours of community service per school year.

How often does NJHS meet?
The general meetings are once a month on the last Wednesday of the month (unless holidays interfere) from 3:00 to 4:00. Each student will be on a committee that meets whenever they decide (usually at lunch or via text/facetime). Officers will meet once a month at lunch with Mrs. Groom.

What kinds of service projects does NJHS do?

Examples of past projects include:
  • Neighborhood clean-up every year after Halloween, on November 1st.
  • Sock drive
  • Blanket drive
  • Elementary study buddies
  • Create and deliver blessing sacks to the homeless
  • We encourage members to suggest additional projects.
