Middle School Electives

Middle School Families: Please review the elective course catalog below. Once your student has selected his/her top two choices for each semester, please complete the elective form. Elective forms must be submitted by Monday, August 12 for schedule consideration. While we will do our best to match student preferences, we cannot guarantee elective placement.

Eagle Boot Camp

1st semester 6th Grade Requirement
All sixth graders will launch their middle school career with this required first-semester elective. The course will include organizational and study skills. Students will be introduced to their laptops, and they will learn how to navigate and utilize applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Guest speakers will join the class to discuss various topics, including Heritage history and culture, leadership, service, and character development. This new course will set our sixth graders up for success in middle school and beyond.

Culinary Life Skills

Offered 1st and 2nd semester, students may only take one semester
As we follow the Abeka curriculum, this family and consumer sciences course will include food and kitchen safety, basic techniques, healthy habits, hospitality, and fresh ingredient cooking, all from a Christian perspective.

Racquet & Yard Sports

Offered 1st and 2nd semester, students may only take one semester
This course will include pickleball, badminton, spike ball, bocce ball, croquet, and 4-way volleyball. Students will have fun learning these recreational, life-long community games. The course will also focus on inclusivity and sportsmanship for all ability levels.

Vocal Music

Intended as a full-year elective, but students may take one semester
Students will focus on the various aspects of performing music in an ensemble: music literacy (reading pitch and rhythm), vocal technique skills (diction and sight-singing), and harmonizing. Students will grow in self-discipline, work cooperatively, and learn that music is a precious gift from God, to be nurtured and offered back to Him in worship.

Leadership

Offered 1st and 2nd semester, students may take one or both semesters
The class will focus on John Maxwell's Laws of Leadership. Through this course and workbook, students will use case studies, self-evaluations, and group discussion questions to help boost their leadership skills.

Study Hall

Offered 1st and 2nd semester, students may take one or both semesters
We are excited to offer this intentional time for students to study and complete assignments. The class teacher will facilitate a quiet work environment, supporting the development of organizational and time management skills. This is a great elective for students with after-school commitments.

Art Potpourri

Only offered 1st semester
Students of all artistic skill levels are welcome as they gain exposure to and appreciation for a variety of art mediums.  As we focus on how we are fearfully and wonderfully made, students will have the opportunity to express themselves and use art as a form of worship.

Eagle FlexFit

Only offered 1st semester
This course will offer a Christ-centered fitness and mindfulness opportunity. Incorporating faith, Scripture, and prayer, students will focus on building strength and endurance in a quiet environment that allows for personal time with Jesus.

Intro to Drama

Only offered 2nd semester
This course will offer opportunities for students to experience all aspects of drama. From acting to behind-the-scenes support, students will dive into drama basics with opportunities to practice what they have learned through small productions.

Watercolors

Only offered 2nd semester
Students of all artistic skill levels are welcome to focus specifically on watercolor painting.  As we focus on how we are fearfully and wonderfully made, students will have the opportunity to express themselves and use art as a form of worship.

Debate

Only offered 2nd semester
Students will be encouraged to strengthen their communication skills in this debate course. They will learn effective strategies for respectful, intentional, and effective debate. As they practice using their voices, they will be encouraged to apply those skills to their daily lives as they shine the love of Jesus to the world around them.
