who we are: Our Distinctive Heritage

Heritage Christian Academy provides Christ-centered education for preschool through high school in a safe, welcoming environment. We combine faith and academics, offering before and after school care, clubs, summer camps, and athletics. Rooted in Faith and focused on Fundamentals, Family, Fellowship, and Future, our unified culture connects families, students, and educators. We nurture the whole child—educationally, spiritually, socially, emotionally, and physically. Since 1979, we’ve built a tradition of academic excellence and strong values. Honoring our history, we also focus on the future with innovative programs and expanded opportunities, preparing students to meet tomorrow’s challenges with faith and confidence. At Heritage, your child joins a community where tradition and vision inspire lifelong growth.

Our Mission: We glorify God together by equipping students to pursue Jesus and His purpose for their lives.

Faith: A Heritage Distinctive

At Heritage, we glorify God together by equipping students to pursue Jesus and His purpose for their lives, a mission that drives every aspect of our school and allows biblical integration across all subject areas and activities. We are a missional school that welcomes families from all backgrounds and faiths; while we do not require families to attend a particular church or share our beliefs, we are open about our commitment to integrating Jesus and a biblical worldview—at an age-appropriate level—into every aspect of the school day. Every decision and offering aligns with our mission, and our students learn to use the same lens as they navigate their formative years and beyond. We invite all families to partner with us and experience the Heritage difference, knowing that our mission and core values are central to who we are.

Our Core Values
  • Faith
    • We are a community abiding in faith through a pursuit of Jesus and an absolute dependence on Him.
    • “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5
  • Love
    • We learn to actively receive and give away God's unconditional love.
    • "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth." 1 Corinthians 13:1
  • Unity
    • We join in grace and truth, from all cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, united together for the sole purpose of glorifying Jesus.
    • "That together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 15:6
  • Integrity
    • We emphasize the importance of having strong ethical and moral principles and following them at all times, no matter who's watching.
    • "Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out." Proverbs 10:9
  • Diligence
    • We continuously persevere through challenges with determination, grace, and hope in God's plan for our lives.
    • We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized.” Hebrews 6:11
Character Development
Each month, we focus on a character trait as part of our active character curriculum. We value the opportunity to partner with parents in helping students grow into people of strong character. Throughout the month, we reinforce these traits by recognizing and honoring students and staff as they demonstrate them, creating a community that supports and celebrates character growth together.
Chapel
Our K-12 students gather weekly for chapel, where they participate in worship and hear an inspiring message. While elementary and secondary students typically have separate chapel times, we cherish opportunities to come together for special chapels throughout the year. These combined gatherings foster a strong sense of unity across our school community and allow older students to serve as positive role models for their younger peers. Our preschoolers also enjoy a vibrant monthly chapel experience, filled with joyful singing, dancing, and interactive Bible stories. Be sure to check out our Chapel Blog!
Biblically-based Curriculum
Christ is reflected in all subject areas, and we teach from a biblical worldview that is firmly rooted in Scripture. Our biblically-based curriculum integrates God’s Word into every lesson, helping students see the relevance of biblical truth in all areas of life. Students are equipped to become independent, critical thinkers who approach all topics through the lens of Jesus, guided by the teachings and values found in the Bible.

"What we love most about Heritage is the genuine love the staff and teachers have for our children and for Jesus. It's clear they are passionate about what they do and take their roles seriously—not just in teaching academics, but in nurturing each child’s faith. Their care and commitment shine through in everything they do. They consistently make thoughtful, prayerful decisions and are always seeking ways to grow and improve the school, creating meaningful experiences and opportunities for our children. We’re so thankful to be part of a community where Christ-centered education is truly lived out."

Fundamentals in Academic Excellence: A Heritage Distinctive

At Heritage, academic excellence is embraced at every stage, beginning with our innovative preschool programs and continuing through each grade level to high school. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to engage and challenge students, ensuring that foundational skills are built early and strengthened as students progress. From engaging phonics instruction in preschool to critical thinking and study skill development in elementary and middle school, every step is intentional in preparing students for increasingly rigorous academic expectations. By the time students reach high school, they are supported in their pursuit of advanced coursework and guided toward success after graduation, whether that means college, career, ministry, or other endeavors. Heritage’s commitment to excellence ensures that every student is prepared not only for academic achievement but also for lifelong learning and success beyond our classrooms.

Exceeding Washington State Standards
Many of our curricula (Bob Jones University) are based on state standards that exceed Washington's, preparing our students for the next level, and subsequent college entrance exams and college-level coursework.
Proven Academic Results
Heritage students consistently achieve impressive academic results, averaging in the 85th percentile and above on nationally normed Iowa standardized assessments. They also outperform local public schools by approximately one grade level on state-normed iReady diagnostics. In addition, our students excel on college readiness exams, with a recent group scoring in the 98th percentile on their PSATs. Heritage’s thriving National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society chapters further reflect our commitment to academic excellence and service-oriented leadership.

Tailored, Student-driven Approach
Heritage recognizes that no student fits in one box and is committed to differentiated learning by understanding each student’s strengths and growth areas. With smaller class sizes, teachers work closely with students to help them achieve their goals. Heritage’s unique Learning Success Center (LSC) further enhances this approach by equipping students to grow academically, socially, spiritually, and physically, and by supporting teachers in meeting diverse learning styles, offering 504 accommodation plans, and facilitating support or independent studies as needed.

"I would highly recommend Heritage. HCA is great about supporting students at different levels of learning. Whether it be a student who needs extra challenges to keep them engaged, or a student who needs extra support to help them succeed. The teachers are wonderful. The smaller class sizes allow for a more individualized education. And it is so nice to be able to send your kids to school and know that they are getting a great education in a place where they are loved."

Family and Fellowship: A Heritage Distinctive

Heritage deeply values family and fellowship, as students and families often describe the school as "family." This strong sense of belonging is nurtured by encouraging parents, guardians, and grandparents to participate actively in school life. Heritage is committed to partnering with families, supporting their goals and aspirations, and working together to foster student growth and education. Teachers and staff are dedicated to ensuring each student feels known, seen, and loved, making sure every child is truly valued as an individual. Through collaboration and meaningful relationships, the Heritage community is a place where everyone feels welcomed and connected.

Student Life
Some of the most important lessons students learn at Heritage don’t come from textbooks or formal instruction. Instead, they emerge from vibrant play centers in preschool, student-led games at recess, reflective conversations during lunch, team pep talks during timeouts, and reworking a science project plan after an initial setback. We believe in giving students the space to truly be kids, providing safe boundaries and clear expectations that encourage them to explore, embrace failure, celebrate together in victory, resolve conflict, and practice being both friends and leaders. While much of this growth happens organically throughout our thoughtfully designed school days, we also intentionally create opportunities through a variety of programs.

• After-school clubs for all interests
• Engaging specialist classes, such as art, music, and technology, built into each school day
• Learning centers and project-based rotations that foster collaboration
• Outdoor play and exploration on our expansive campus
• Hands-on science labs that spark curiosity
• Family and community events that build lasting connections
• Music and drama performances that encourage creative expression
• Opportunities to experiment with a variety of art media

Athletics
Heritage Christian Athletics is a rapidly growing, no cut program dedicated to providing inclusive athletic experiences for all students from grades 5 through 12, regardless of skill level or ability, within a supportive, Christ-centered community that encourages and builds one another up.
Extended Care
We know how challenging it can be to juggle work and school schedules. That’s why our extended care program is designed to make life easier and more affordable for busy families (students 3-12 years).
  • Affordable: We offer safe, caring, and engaging before- and after-school care at just $15 per hour for the 2026-2027 school year—one of the most cost-effective options available.
  • Flexible: Our flexible hours (open at 7:00 AM, close at 6:00 PM) help accommodate unpredictable commutes and varying schedules.
  • Convenient: With billing in convenient half-hour increments, you only pay for the time you need, ensuring maximum value and flexibility.
  • Non-school days and early dismissals: Extended care is also available on many early dismissal and non-school days—including spring break and conference days—so your family is always covered.
    • For even more convenience, our Summer Camp/Care program lets you create a custom ‘a la carte’ schedule to fit your specific needs.
Parent Teacher Fellowship
The Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) at Heritage is a cornerstone of the school community, going above and beyond to make every family feel welcome and valued. Their dedication shines through in their signature events—like fundraising dine-outs, roller-skating nights, night out at the Mariners, the cherished daddy-daughter dance, mother-son events, park playdates, Elevated Sportz Night, and warm coffee socials. These gatherings create lasting memories, strengthen family bonds, and offer ongoing support to staff through thoughtful teacher appreciation. The PTF’s heartfelt commitment and joyful spirit unite Heritage families, making them truly indispensable to the life of the school.

"When an outside acquaintance asks if I know another family at Heritage, the answer is usually “yes!” Families know and support each other at Heritage, so you never feel lost."

Future Focus: A Heritage Distinctive

Growth at Heritage is guided by a commitment to quality, consistency, and a vision that embraces both tradition and innovation. Since opening in 1979, Heritage has continually refined its approach to expansion, anchored in its Strategic Growth Plan and a collaborative partnership with the School Board. Recent milestones include preparing to add a modern two-classroom portable building for the 2026-2027 school year, launching a capital campaign feasibility study, and mapping out plans for future permanent expansion. Throughout this journey, Heritage remains dedicated to supporting students and families at every stage, thoughtfully expanding programs, classes, and extracurricular opportunities. As each department prepares students for the next phase, the school’s secondary program continues to flourish, providing a seamless path from preschool enrollment through high school graduation.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11
