With Jesus, I can: 1st Grade Share Chapel
And last but not least, our first graders had the grand finale of the of the school year's elementary share chapels. We are so proud of Mrs. Shilley and Mrs. King’s classes!
To set up the student presentations, Mrs. Shilley shared the story of Gideon from Judges 6-7. She illustrated how God kept reducing Gideon's army to show that victory would come only through His power and grace. Gideon started with 32,000 soldiers, but God told him there were too many, so He reduced the number to 10,000. Then God said there were still too many, and finally, only 300 men armed with swords and empty jars remained. Hiding with the other Israelites, Gideon wondered why the angel called him a mighty warrior, but he trusted God. Because God was fighting for them, Gideon and his small army scared away the Midianites by creating confusion with trumpet blasts and breaking jars. Mrs. Shilley emphasized that, just as with Gideon, God is going to ask us to do hard things, too. “But He’s going to give you the strength to do those things.”
Each first grader shared an example of something they can’t do alone but can achieve with Jesus. One student summed it up perfectly by saying, “By myself, I can’t be brave, but with Jesus I am courageous!”
"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39
